medicine ball training

Medicine Ball Training

Completed my Medicine Ball Training, and obtained this certificate.
According to Wikipedia, the information:
A medicine ball (also known as an exercise ball, a med ball, or a
fitness ball) is a weighted ball roughly the diameter of the shoulders
(approx. 14 inches). Often used for rehabilitation and strength training,
it serves an important role in the field of sports medicine. It should not
be confused with the larger, inflated exercise ball.
Medicine balls are usually sold as 2–25 lb. balls and are used
effectively in plyometric weight training to increase explosive power in
athletes in all sports. Some medicine balls are in the form of weighted
basketballs.

Medicine ball training is one of the oldest forms of strength and conditioning training – the first
reference to wrestlers training with sand filled bladders appears in Persia nearly 3000 years ago. In ancient Greece the physician Hippocrates had them sewn out of animal skins and stuffed with sand. His patients threw them back and forth for injury prevention and rehabilitation.
In the late nineteenth century and early twentieth century, the words "health" and "medicine" were synonymous. The so-called "Four Horsemen of Fitness" were the dumbbell, the Indian club, the wand and the medicine ball. This is where the beginnings of the modern medicine ball originate.

One common activity is to have athletes hold the ball against their chest and thrust it at another athlete, who catches it against their chest. This strengthens arm, chest, and leg muscles.
Medicine balls throws are also implemented as part of the SPARQ rating, a test of sport-specific
athleticism, to assess core strength, total body power and coordination. Different tests involve an athlete throwing the ball behind them and over their head as far as they can, or kneeling and pushing the ball out from their chest for maximum distance.

They are also extensively used by secondary schools as a fitness aid.

ACE Certified

Certified Personal Trainer of American Council on Exercise (ACE)

Sometimes, determination really works miracles. Who could think of a 63 year old man would go and take the Personal Trainer Course, and in fact, obtained the qualification through hard work and strong mind?

My U lecture said it right: It is not the chronological age counts, it is the biological age that works! I have proved it again. Hooray!

First Aid Course 2009

Upgrading is a process in individual life at this time of the society context. Continuous learning is a must, as the knowledge we acquired is forever evolving. New research and discoveries have been found or confirmed daily. If we stayed put and claimed to know everything, we must be very ignorant and silly.

Unfortunately, there are people holding to his status and refuse to see the real world in front of him. Sad.

Achievement

The Determination of one self

One of my rewarding achievements is the conferred of Bachelor of Science by Edith Cowan University, Australia. With my age (61 then) and bad memory retaining rate, I tried my very best to coop with the studies as well as the physical requirement. With my shear determination I finally made it. I am very pleased with my own achievement. Not only obtained the said Degree, but I also obtained several subjects with distinctions.

I have proven to myself another time, if I decided to do something in my life, I will do my best and reach the target that I have set for myself. Failure is not an excuse for me.

When I was young

1965 August, I was recruited as a government servant, posted to Sembawang Farm School for two years for Farm Training. It was an exciting experience for me, as I grew up in the city area. There were 17 of us in the training. We lived in a big dormitory room. Only on Saturday, we could be released for home. Three meals were provided there. We were taught the following subjects: Animal Husbandry, Freshwater Fishery, Marine Water Fishery, Poultry Farming, Agriculture Farming, Cooperate Society law, and Machine Engineering. Most of the subjects were taught by the Taiwan lecturers. We had practical work in the field. We planted sweet corns, local vegetable, keep poultry pans, we also had two fish ponds to keep local fish for local market, we had a big aquarium with three large tanks to keep precious Gold fish, carps and others. We learned grafting of fruit trees too.

Cathy was one of my favorite cinemas. I used to watch Saturday or Sunday morning shows there. That time, I was stay at 175B Selegie Road. It accompanied me for most of my teenage years.

This is the electric bus operated in year 50-65. The power supply was from the top of the two wires. When it made the turn at the corner, the conductor of the bus needed to run down the bus, to its rear to pull down the two erected bars, and re-connected them to the road where the bus turn into. He needs good timing to perform this act, otherwise, the bus would run out of power. Quite a cute move there!
